Live #145 & BBEX International Deadline Approaches

Over the last two weeks, we broadcast our 145th episode of Gensokyo Radio Live and continued studying third-party code related to the metadata issue, plus the deadline for BBEX International is fast approaching. For more details, read on!

During Live #145, we brought along our full staff team and some thematic new music to get listeners in the mood for the Halloween season. From Thousand Leaves’ official digital appearance via TDMD to a handful of Steam games to talk through, there was plenty to cover in our 2-hour broadcast. If you were unable to tune in, you can listen to past episodes as podcasts via our website, app, or most places where podcasts are found.

The deadline for submissions to BBEX International is rapidly approaching, and if you’re a creator who has been working on something that hasn’t yet been released, please consider sending in your work! This event features fanworks from folks around the world and is presented in both Spanish and English as a digital magazine and video stream event. You have until November 9th to get works in, please check our previous announcements or visit their Discord server via our #server-affiliates channel for more information.

Finally, we’re continuing to investigate the metadata issue. We’ve talked at length about this in previous Knowledge posts, but here’s where we stand at the moment: we’ve followed two leads for potential causes which have both led to dead-ends, and are currently investigating a third lead. From what we’ve learned so far, we believe that the issue is partially related to the way id3 tags are stored and retrieved in some media files.

As a reminder, the code we’re tracing is not code that we wrote or control, and in some cases we end up tracing code back to systems or frameworks that are closed-source and therefore undiagnosable. If we are unable to determine the cause of the metadata issue, as a last resort, we may consider building our own system to handle our station.

That’s all for this week, we’ll keep you posted on our findings, and thanks for listening!
