Live #143 & Firefox Regression

In the last two weeks, we broadcast Live #143 and have been looking into a few different issues related to Firefox. For more details, read on.

During Live #143, we brought on all four staff members to chat about various topics including Comiket and our community-led Comiket Watch thread via Discord, a new fan anime announcement featuring Mystia’s Izakaya, new game releases including Touhou 19, and new music which we played during the show. We also covered the results of the recent preorder sale, Discord role automation for Listeners (free) and Indigo members, and plans to add more items and options to the store.

In other news, there are a couple of issues that have surfaced, primarily related to listening and using our service via the Firefox browser. We’ve seen issues with playback via the PWA as well as issues with ratings and listener detection. We’re calling this “regression” because this was previously working, but is no longer working, especially with the PWA considering the most recent code change was pushed about 3 months ago.

In order to fix this, we will need to look through the listener logging system, recent updates from Firefox that may have interfered with listener detection and rating submission, and alternatives to media playback and related classes for the PWA. We’re already looking into media framework alternatives to improve compatibility with Safari and iOS, and Firefox is already part of our test suite, so we’ll try to expedite work on this and get a fix out for folks that use Firefox as well. In the meantime, Chrome appears to remain unaffected for the website and PWA, plus you can always tune in to the station via third-party services such as TuneIn and Radio Garden, or directly with your app of choice via the links at stream.gensokyoradio.net.

That’s all for this week, there’s a lot of work to do, so stay tuned for updates and thanks for listening!
